Logitech M570 Trackball

Logitech M570 Trackball has introduced a new, few things in computing have stayed quite as consistent as the mouse and keyboard. With each passing year monitors reach ever higher resolutions and framerates, graphics cards bunch in a growing number of teraflops of graphical horsepower, and CPUs add greater cores and greater clock speeds. In contrast, although peripheral manufacturers will always make bold claims concerning the speed and reliability of their products, the keyboards and mice they produce are essentially the same from year to year.

For anyone that has never held, let alone applied a trackball. The Logitech M570 Trackball is going to seem odd. It looks like a huge mouse with a huge gumball attached to it. Its main function is to provide a reliable and highly comfortable grip for your hands while the thumb moves a little ball. The ball over the side covers the detector which translates the ball movement into X and Y axis movement of your on-screen pointer. Letting your fingers do more work, in this instance your mind, repetitive motions with your wrists are greatly reduced. Even the small bones and cartilage in your wrist are much more prone to RSI’s than your fingers.

Design

Logitech M570 Trackball has remained essentially the very prominent seller of trackballs. Despite being around for so long, it’s not hard to see the reason why trackball mice also have remained niche. There is just something that looks intimidating about using your thumb to push a ball around rather than moving the entire body of the mouse. Continuing the tour of this device a scroll wheel which may be pushed. The left and right for additional functionality, a button for switching between connecting via USB dongle and Bluetooth, and a little button to the left of the trackball that places it into ‘precision manner’. This essentially impedes its responsiveness, and that means that you may generate larger, more precise motions.

The Logitech M570 Trackball weighs only a light 4.8 pounds, but held firmly in place. Even in my own most intense gaming minutes, by the four rubber stoppers for resistance. Also on the underside of this device is the shut-off switch and a spot for your own AA battery (included) to power that the M570 which also doubles as a holding place for that thumbnail USB wireless adapter. The Logitech M570 Trackball is just a little bulky, but it has to be to encourage the trackball. It measures in at 1.7 from 3.7 by 5.7-inches (HWD), and the only real issue I had with the M570 was with its size.

 Features

One of Logitech’s amazing benefits with the M570 is your plug and play experience. Both sets of downloading options available include Logitech’s Unifying Software that enables one to join up to 6 compatible wireless devices on one USB. The Unifying program walks you through a pair of simple measures to sync your Logitech keyboards or mice. I was ready to sync my personal M705 wireless mouse along with K-250 computer keyboard to the M570’s USB adapter.

The other software available for your own M570 is the Set Point 6.15, which allows you to customize your mouse settings. You can set the number of lines the scroll wheel will scroll, pointer speed, along with pointer acceleration. There is a good specific section for gaming and also a place to alter default button settings. You May Also allow cool effects like a pointer trail, and also the app keeps stats on your device, like just how many days of battery power you’ve left. The M570 comes with a Logitech 3-year limited hardware warranty.

Performance

Logitech M570 Trackball

Logitech M570 Trackball has a small button to the side of the trackball which you can press to decrease the speed.  This ‘precision mode’ purportedly helps with fine mouse controller, and also we imagine it might be more useful if you do significantly more precise design work with a mouse. However, for overall office usage, we had no demand for it. Precisely the same is true of some different buttons included in the mouse. A more recent innovation in mouse scrolling is a tilting scroll wheel that allows you to scroll onscreen both horizontally (left/right) and vertically (up/down). The ability to scroll both ways is handy when you are viewing wide documents like a Web page or spreadsheet. There are a handful of replacement thumb buttons that confusingly you’ll access with your index finger now that the thumb is on full-time trackball duty.

The Logitech Wireless M570 Trackball was responsive when pitted up against everyday activities and the gaming grid. Its 18 months of indicated battery life by Logitech and its versatility of use on any outside. (Since there is absolutely no mouse waggling required) demonstrated it was a reliable competitor. There are who swear by gaming on the trackball, but we just cannot make it work with all of us. Needing to spin the ball to pay large distances never felt as accurate. And also the additional hassle of having to switch to precision manner to fine-tune our aim slowed down us an embarrassing volume.

User Experience

Logitech M570 Trackball

The Wireless Trackman Wheel trackball in Logitech is the most obvious precursor to the M570. Since then, Logitech has greatly refined their design. The Wireless Trackman Wheel’s USB transceiver was large and had to be set near the trackball to work. Logitech has evolved its transceiver design significantly, you could share the M570’s wireless dongle with a compliant keyboard.

The second biggest improvement is your battery life. The M570 requires one AA battery-powered. According to the Set Point software, it needs to be helpful for more than 540 days, and this is using a standard AA battery-powered. The buttons are located in precisely the same location that many modern mice have them. Except for the rule motion, when stored in your hand, the M570 works exactly like a normal mouse. All the function buttons break under the typical mouse-oriented fingers. The Logitech Wireless M570 Trackball has been throw with a very smooth plastic finish. This finish helps it stay clean also makes it easy to clean whenever necessary. It has fairly long lines channels for the fingers to rest in. This almost featureless surface combined with the smooth plastic may trigger some slight problems.

Making to the Switch to Trackball

Clients of regular mice or alternative trackballs will quickly gain proficiency. Individuals who are complete novices to computers and really have not heard any “bad habits”. You will have to compel yourself to make use of this to get past that initial barrier. The placement of buttons and scroll wheel greatly reduces the amount of change.

Below are a few tips for all those ready to make the switch.

  • Experiment with different placement locations for the M570.
  • Try moving the trackball from the mouse customary right-hand position to just underneath the space bar; this could reduce torque on the neck and shoulder.
  • Take frequent breaks stretching your hands and shoulders. You’re using an entirely new set of muscles, and they are going to annoyance.
